Custom Consoles (https://www.customconsoles.co.uk) announces the completion of a SteelBase control room desk for a municipal power plant in southeast England. The facility is used to generate electricity from collected food waste as well as black bag waste.

“Refined over a period of 15 years, SteelBase desks continue to be in strong demand in applications ranging from public utility and industrial process control to transport and security,” says Neil Reed, managing director of Custom Consoles. “They combine the strength and ergonomic efficiency required for constant use. The modular construction of SteelBase desks also allows easy expansion or reconfiguration if required for future changes in operational workflow or location.”

“Intended for use by two or more process control supervisors, the desk is a 2.4 metre wide by 3 metre front-to-back U-shaped structure with a 180 degree wrap-around video monitor array,” adds sales manager Gary Fuller. “The array comprises 22 flat-panel screens mounted in two horizontal tiers. Each vertical pair of monitors is mounted on an articulated arm attached to predrilled mounting points along the rear of the desk. The desk itself is formed from 11 bays. Every bay has front and rear doors accessing a vented space for a computer as well as accommodation for up to 6U of rack-mounted technical equipment. A continuous cable tray runs the entire desk width, protected by an easily removable flush-fitting cover panel. Mounting points for data and power sockets are provided in each PC compartment. Wireless mobile phone chargers are incorporated into the 45 degree angled front-left and front-right corner bays.”

The desk is fitted with a hard-wearing Eiger Marmoleum worktop laminate with black PVC edging. Doors and side panels are mid grey.

Offering a robust and ergonomic solution for control room consoles, SteelBase takes its name from the steel base frames which form its structural core. Desks and related fittings such as equipment pods and side units can be specified and combined from a range of standard powder-coated frames. Cable management is provided throughout the console with access to equipment via hinged removable doors at front and rear.

Predrilled monitor arm mounting points are positioned at the rear upper edge of each bay. Careful attention has been paid to styling with a choice of front, side and desktop finishes. SteelBase desktops are available in a choice of 120 cm (standard) or 100 cm (SteelBase Lite) front-to-back sizes with a choice of Marmoleum or laminate work surfaces.

SteelBase furniture is designed to meet or exceed the requirements of ISO9241-5, EN527-1, 2 and 3 and BS EN ISO11064. All elements are guaranteed against component failure for five years of normal use.
