Security and access management specialist wins prestigious national award

A Worcester-based security and access management specialist has been named as one of the UK’s best companies to work for, gaining a prestigious national award.

The Key Safe Company have been accredited as 'Very Good' in The UK’s Top 100 Best Small Companies to Work for in 2023 – a nationally-recognised and respected scheme run by Best Companies, which celebrates a company’s commitment to employee engagement in the workplace.

Entering for the first time, it not only made the Top 100, but achieved a Top 50 ranking in the best small companies to work for in the UK, placing #44, in the Top 50 best companies to work for in the West Midlands, placing #43, as well as making the Top 10 companies to work for in their sector, placing #9.

The Key Safe Company is based at Nunnery Park on Hornhill Road and employs around 30 people. Founded in 1996, the company designs, produces and markets a wide range of security products including police preferred key safes, secure cabinets, access control systems, key cabinets and padlocks.

It is the market leader in safe key storage, selling more than two million products in the UK and becoming a household name in sectors ranging from holiday lets to in-home care.

David Ogden, Founder and CEO, said: “Our people are experts in their fields with a passion for the products, services and company culture.

“Without our amazing team, The Key Safe Company simply wouldn't be as successful as it is.

“We aim to celebrate our team at every opportunity and we are grateful for their contributions, so this award is truly for them.

“The Key Safe Company’s culture is something we are all very proud of, but we are always looking at how to continuously improve as an employer.”

The national award is based on anonymous staff surveys which found 96 per cent of staff enjoyed their work-home life balance, 100 per cent of staff felt people go out of their way to help each other, and 92 per cent of staff experienced personal growth.

The Key Safe Company recognises its employees' hard work and efforts in various ways, from giving everyone the same profit-related bonus, to days off for birthdays and flexible working patterns.

Staff are continually invited to share their ideas on what could make the company an even better place to work through regular surveys, quarterly steering groups and a dedicated suggestion box, with staff awarded £100 in vouchers if their idea contributes to wider organisational success.

Other employee initiatives include a health cash plan and full health checks, charity challenges, staff awards and social events, to a morale-boosting ‘office dog day’ where one colleague brings their pet to the office to meet the team per month.

Jonathan Austin, Founder and CEO of Best Companies, said: “Our Best Companies to Work for Lists recognise and celebrate all of the organisations who are helping to make the world a better workplace.

“The Lists represent the commitment that these organisations show every day to their employees and how they have put investing in their people strategies at the forefront of their company culture.

“Companies that prioritise their employees and organisational health will inevitably find success. By continuing to innovate their practices, improve their business strategies, and find new ways to show their employees how valued they are, these organisations are leading the way in engagement.

“To make the Best Companies List is a remarkable accomplishment and The Key Safe Company should be proud of all that they have achieved this year.”
